Targeted sleep modulation with auditory stimulation

In this project, we investigate how auditory stimulation during sleep can be used to interact with specific ongoing brain activity patterns. Deep sleep is characterized by highly structured neuronal dynamics, such as slow waves and spindles, which are thought to play important roles in maintaining brain function. Using targeted auditory stimulation, we aim to probe and modulate these endogenous activity patterns in a controlled manner. With this experimental approach we seek to gain fundamental insight into how they are generated, coordinated, and what functional roles they fulfill in the human brain.

The mechanistic knowledge gained in this project provides an important foundation for translational research. By advancing our understanding of sleep-related brain dynamics and how they can be modulated non-invasively, this work informs other projects aimed at developing diagnostic applications or therapeutic interventions for clinical populations such as ( StimuLOOP)
