PhD Project: AllRead – EEG and fMRI measures of a learning-app based training in children with poor reading skills. After a BSc in Biology and a MSc Neuroscience specialization at the ETH Zurich, Christina started her PhD in the Developmental Neuroscience Group. She has always been intrigued by language and how the brain functions. Her master’s project revolved around bilingualism and used EEG to study Chinese-English and German-English speakers during translation in Brendan Weekes’ lab in Hongkong. For her PhD, she collected behavioral, EEG, and fMRI data from children with varying reading skills. Poor readers performed a grapheme-phoneme-correspondence-based training over 12 weeks (Swiss GraphoLearn Training App, available on Google Play and Apple Store). Christina is interested in how reading processes differ in poor and typical readers and how they are affected by a specialized intensive training.
